Excellent piece. Your observations from Moscow cut through the Western caricature and recall deeper rhythms in Russian history. The pattern you describe, of a nation calm under external pressure and turning adversity into renewal, has parallels in earlier eras. After the Napoleonic invasion in 1812, Russia rebuilt stronger and more self-aware. After the turmoil of the 1990s, it likewise re-emerged with a clearer sense of purpose. In each case, outside attempts to isolate or “reform” Russia only reinforced its internal cohesion and civilizational identity. What the West misreads as passivity is in fact a patient, almost geological form of resilience, one that sees history as cyclical, not terminal. Your essay captures that parallel world vividly.
Too bad a good mind is infected with some poison that let's him make sweeping geneneraizations like "Black people" as it that meant something more than simple skin colour. Surely you can find a more nuanced explanation for the trouble you see in the world.
Nice article. Don't show it to Gladios, they unironically believe that Moscow is browner than Paris & that the Judeo-American Empire is fighting for the white race against brown Asiatic Russia. If you disagree they'll call you a brownoid.
What a fascinating analysis - completely different perspective and image of Russia than the one painted by Western media. Here in Poland, discrediting Russia has practically become a national sport, with contempt and Russophobia served up daily as part of the mainstream narrative. But after years of checking sources from all over the world, I started digging deeper into the topic myself. That’s when I realized just how thoroughly the average Polish viewer has been misled for decades. Articles like this one are either niche, buried, or outright suppressed. From my everyday life in Poland, I can say with confidence: the programming of Russophobia into the national consciousness has been chillingly effective.
Similar experience in St. Petersburg! I would only add that European measures have taught Russians to look within themselves, to rely more on the opportunities offered by their country - and there are enough of them, and not to care about Western Russophobic rudeness.
Thank you for a un blinkered evaluation of Russia and western Europe. Impossible that such a piece could be published in the Western mainstream press.
There is the occasional rogue item however. I live in the land of Oz down under and was amazed last evening on the local Sky news(owned by Murdoch) to hear a former senior US State Department Russia expert completely demolish the accepted view of the Ukraine war in only 2 minutes:

I suggest you go where your mouth is.

Russia and its allies live in the real world, while the West lives in a fantasy world.

Is the narrative wall collapsing as is Ukraine?
Thanks for your great work!
