The above verse seems pretty obvious to me. Modern, Western "Christians" would most likely say this only applies to emotional and spiritual burdens so as to avoid taking concrete measures to insure that everyone's needs are met. Typical Capitalist/Protestant cop-out.
The Pilgrims that landed in Massachusetts tried that very thing, "...all things held in common" and failed miserably. That idea is only good in a monastery but not in society in general.
The USSR failed on that--couldn't support itself. China too; it moved from collectivism to now private property albeit government controlled making it a fascist state.
The very early church should NOT be held as an example for the nascent church for it was still Jewish and Jewish racial proclivities directed the church, i.e. the messianic utopian idea of communism and then cultural communism in Gal. 3:28. It took awhile for The Church to break free of its Jewish milieu and discover itself as a Doric Greek religion with a Roman flavor.
Socialism is gnosticism; utopianism, which is “immanentizing the eschaton”, is gnosticism.
Nearly every time someone brings up a form of socialism as a possible solution, someone uses the worst possible examples of socialism to shoot it down. One only has to look at what the Nordic nations have done in recent times, and what Germany did in the 1930's. These systems worked and were more of a blend of systems. Read Gottfried Feder for a good start. Also, if a monetary system remains as a debt-based scam, any system will be hobbled. So, first, a nation must attain true sovereignty that is not beholden to the UN, WEF, IMF, etc.
Where are the Christians anyway? All I see is a collection of weak, ineffective people arguing over beliefs, liturgy, and other impeding minutia. Christendom has outsourced its education, military, and such to secular, democratic institutions which are simply anti-Christian. There are other religions of the Abrahamic nature who are getting things done in their best interests at Christendom's expense; dismantling the west brick by brick, and now, street by street. And, you guys are arguing about minutia. Good luck.
I agree with you "Christians are weak, ineffective people" because ALL of Christianity has become gnostic; it all has become heretical and apostasy and completely devoid of arete (virtue). Arete is the basis of leadership, and none of them have that. It has become a disaster.
