I agree. Every day we hear of a Russian attack on a missile, drone, or artillery manufacturing site, or a storage depot of war materiel in Ukraine. These don't spring up overnight; why the hell weren't they destroyed a long time ago? If Russia had interdicted all war materiel entering Ukraine at the start, this war would have been over years ago.
Fear will return in the blink of an eye. It will be too late. I am not all that worried right now.

I would add only these points that under-gird Putin's fecklessness: he suffers from the illusion that others are rational, and when not rational at least capable of reflection and soul-redemption and thus eager (as who would not be) of becoming more rational. He cannot give up on any soul as completely lost and beyond redemption and thus is incapable of appreciating at a visceral level what a tawdry bag of psychopaths, sociopaths, malignant narcissists and simply selfish and self-serving shits he is dealing with. I was a great fan of his for many years and still bow my head in silence to him for saving Russia, but another leader, or at least a vast change in leadership strategy is urgently needed.
