Italy, like Japan, and many countries across the "West", has lived within a sandbox created by the domination of the USA since 1945. Each country, to find their way, must regain their voice, but also update their respective cultures.
Very interesting and informative piece. I have always liked the culture of slowness and spaciousness of Japanese culture, like the traditional garb, the Zen gardens, minimal furniture and decor, tea ceremony. We lack this esthetic in the USA and from seeing the images of Tokyo and other bustling large cities but I also see the gap from our present understanding of the politics of the world now that you have pointed it out. It's like an adolescent or very young adult not leaving home to make their own life, and remaining dependent and removed from the world. Thank you.
This essay reads like a timeless Lion's roar.
