Sorry, but a VERY important point is omitted. Taiwan was a JAPANESE COLONY since after Meiji restoration (1895) until 1945 - and older Taiwanese do not have real bad memories about it. "model" colony, benign rule (railways, industry) as contrast to "western" extractive occupation.
Secondly, Taiwan's pre-KMT population (either Aboriginal or Ming dynasty Chinese settlers) is not necessarily pro-unification or pro-Beijing.
So Japan seeing Taiwan as "it's own" predates all of these post-1945 western-mindset based "arguments".
I wonder whose amnesia is hinted at. Obviously, this "Japanese" (?) author is catering for western (and Japanese post 45) amnesia.

Unlikely . As the PRC ramps up its aggression against both Taiwan and Japan , the far more likely route is closer defence relations between Taiwan and Japan , militarisation of the Japanese island chain from Taiwan northwards , closer military ties with America , South Korea and Australia and transition of Japanese self defence forces into a modern military, capable of offensive deterrent strikes .
